    Question - after coloring the fabric, can you wait to spray it or should you do it right away?

    • @LolliandGrace
      @LolliandGrace 2 місяці тому

      Hi Angie - I don't think it really matters, but honestly I didn't test that. I always just sprayed my fabric relatively soon after coloring it. But I truly think that the color would still move through the fabric just the same if you waited for a time after coloring it.

      My goal for any video tutorial is to provide a thorough explanation and easily understandable steps for people to learn and enjoy hand embroidery techniques. I work very hard, spending a great deal of time deciding on the best way to do this. It takes a lot of time, effort, thought, and preparation to make these tutorials. I'm sorry you felt it was "oversimplified." My hope for everyone is that they find joy in stitching, regardless of whether it is simple or complicated.

    I’m curious how you can hold the needle in your right hand, and have your left fingers available to stretch the thread apart. What are you holding your hoop with? It moves easily so can’t be on a stand. Thx.

    • @LolliandGrace
      @LolliandGrace 3 місяці тому

      That's an excellent question! Back when I made this video a couple (several?) years ago I didn't use a hoop stand. (I use one now, and it's much easier for everything.) But when I was filming this I am resting the top edge (in other words, regardless of how the design is rotated, the edge of my hoop that is furthest away from me) is resting on the edge of my worktable. The edge of the hoop that is nearest to me is propped on my lap. It's a bit unwieldy that way, but it generally worked, allowing me to rotate my hoop frequently so I'm stitch at the angle that is easiest for me. But as I said, using a hoop stand is much easier for all of this.

    Awesome tutorial! Looked at a few vids but this was exactly what i was looking for. Do you know if this would work on thick black felt? Im just getting started in the craft and have been practicing on cheap felt before i sacrifice my better scrap fabrics lol

    • @LolliandGrace
      @LolliandGrace 3 місяці тому

      Thank you so much! That's a great question. I love working with felt, but it does present some issues when it comes to pattern transfer. Unfortunately, I don't think this method would work well for felt, since it requires the surface on which your tracing to be smooth and firm (for the white graphite to transfer in a clean line). If you're trying to transfer a detailed pattern onto felt, you can use an iron-on transfer pen, but that would mostly be for light colored felts. I think there is a white transfer pen, but I haven't personally tested it, so I don't know how bright it is and if it would show up on felt. I wish I had a better answer for you, because as I said, felt is wonderful, but it makes pattern transfer much more difficult!

      Hi Diane - I've heard people say that it does, but honestly I've never really noticed that. Now, different types of threads can have different TWISTS, and than can make a difference in how stitches lay on the fabric.

    Great info, thanks! One question I have (I must have missed it; actually I couldn’t hear the video very well); how do you remove the gel pen markings when you’re finished your project? Or do you just leave them there?

    • @LolliandGrace
      @LolliandGrace 5 місяців тому

      That's a very good question! The white gel pen is permanent, so I always make sure I stitch over them (and trace carefully). Over time (usually while I'm handling the hoop and stitching) the white marks can get a little lighter, but generally I consider them to be permanent.

    • @LolliandGrace
      @LolliandGrace 5 місяців тому

      That's a great question! Many people do trace with their fabric out of the hoop, but I find that it can move around/shift when I do it like that. When it's stretched in the hoop the fabric is tight and doesn't move, so my traced pattern is more accurate that way. Sometimes there are reasons to not trace when it's in the hoop, but mostly I like to have it stretched when I'm tracing (whether it's on light fabrics or dark fabrics). Hope that helps!
